IHTP Community Well Wishes

So often, we or our loved ones, go through difficult times and need that bit of extra help sent our way. This is our prayer and special energy gift list – a place where you can ask to hold or be held in our weekly Sunday harp playing of Somewhere Over the Rainbow.   For over 24 years now, we come together as a group of harpists to play this song when anyone in our IHTP family is going through tough times. Please add Dale Stetina to the list for people to hold in your hearts while playing. Dale is a Boulder, CO, cyclist who had a cycling accident yesterday, August 31, and is hospitalized with severe brain stem trauma. Thank you!

Thank you all for keeping my daughter’s husband Kevin Maddox in your Sunday playing with intention. His situation worsens, and at 43 the diagnosis of Huntington’s Disease is tabled while they deal with metastatic lesions from his pancreas to his liver and colon. Biopsy cannot be done due to his neurologic disorders. Radiation may begin regardless. It is an untenable situation but the family, three kids included, remain strong. Please keep Kevin and my daughter Dulcey and her three children in your playing and praying. Thank you.

Our hearts join with Claire Guggenheim as she mourns the passing of her beloved mother, Alice Girvin on August 13, 2013.
May our intention of love carry Claire through this sad time and enable Claire to heal. One is never the same without mom here, but it helps to know they are without pain and struggle.
    Lovingly,
    Bambi

  4. BambiN says:

    Dear Sarah,
Thank you for the update regarding your husband’s progress! It is so good to hear the positive results.
Prayers continue for both of you as his healing continues.
    Blessings, Bambi Niles

We mourn the passing of Jan Hirsch’s mother on July 28, 2013. Jan has a lovely posting on Facebook.
It was wonderful that Jan could bring the harp to her mom.
May Jan draw strength from her Harp Therapy family during this tender time.
Sending prayers for peace in your heart, Jan.

  6. I wanted to thank those of you who remembered my husband Thomas in your thoughts and heart as he underwent heart surgery, for an aorta valve replacement and an aorta repair on June 10th. Its been 6 weeks now and he has about 6 more weeks to go until he can return to work as a Lutheran pastor. He was born with a heart murmur and was in otherwise great health except for the hardening and narrowing of that valve. It was a harrowing experience for me to live through as the witness. I’d much rather be the patient I discovered. And it was interesting to see how sound affected Thomas afterward for the 5 days he was in the hospital and after he came home. If anyone can remember where the research can be accessed, I’d like to know where the data is published: that it is good to play for patients 20-25 minutes followed by silence. It seems that silence is rare and difficult to find or create in medical settings. But people can close their doors unless they have a roommate with a TV going. I so appreciate this forum, and Tina’s gift to us all of the IHTP Program. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
In peace, Sarah PS If you have not yet read Jean Houston’s The Wizard of Us, you might find it enlightening and filled with wonder….

Prayer and intentional music are needed for my students.

Janet Brouckaert’s father was recently diagnosed with bladder cancer, and Alzheimer’s on top of Parkinson’s. She says he has also had a stroke and communication is difficult. he is in hospital in Florida and Janet carries the burden of decision making and future placement for him. He loves Dean Martin music, and Janet played her iPhone, giving him much needed pain relief. She is not sleeping!

Claire Guggenheim’s mom, Alice, fell last evening, fracturing her pelvis. She is in Doylestown, PA hospital, leaving husband Bill alone. At 89 she has demonstrated great strength in the face if challenge.

Thanking you for your loving support of Claire and Janet.

  8. SarahS says:

Greetings: This is from Sarah Schwartz, class of 2000. My husband Thomas will be having heart surgery on June 10th on the aorta valve. I would appreciate your prayers for him. He was born with a heart murmur and never had symptoms until 8 weeks ago. He serves as a Lutheran pastor, is 58 and is otherwise healthy as he has enjoyed cycling and hiking over the years to renew himself. We hope his surgeon will be able to repair the calcification and narrowing of this area and give him his life back again.

And if you would like to learn more about why the song Over the Rainbow is so powerful for so many people, please see Jean Houston’s latest book, The Wizard of Us. Here you will learn about the power of archetypes, the work of Joseph Campbell, Carl Jung and Jean Houston and how these forces that live in the unconscious, influence our lives. Thank you kindly for remembering Tom.
    Peace be with you. Sarah

  9. Gwynna says:

Please play for my friend Share who is the most amazing, insightful, honest and determined woman I know. I am blessed to be her friend. Share first developed breast cancer a little over 5 years ago, which returned mid 2011 … and progressed to brain tumour and menenges cancer (cerebral spinal fluid) a year ago. Given 30 to 90 days then … my dear friend is still with us having confounded the medical world around her :-) however, she needs all the angels around her right now. Nameste.

  10. Beverly Tyack says:

Please remember my daughter’s husband, Kevin Maddox, in your playing over the next few weeks. At 42 he is suffering from an as yet undiagnosed degenerative neurological disorder that causes temporary amnesia, intermittent unconsciousness, unremitting headaches, tremors, weakness, and severe pain. The doctors as of yet have been unable to help him and more tests are on the way in the next few weeks. Thank you.

  11. MariaEG says:

    All my dears,
I also want to tell you that my cousin Osvaldo (we played “Over the Rainbow”for him) is doing very well now. He is a young man and was able to overcome his illness.
    Thanks so much for helping.
    María Emilia

  12. MariaEG says:

Dear Christina and all my friends harpists and healers over the world in the HTP,
Thank you so much for your prayers and “Over the Rainbow”playing for my dear aunt Maria Ofelia.
Se passed away a couple of days ago at age 99.YES, I say 99. She was a beloved woman and she realized she was leaving a bit of this material world everyday. She died in peace with the love of her family and the sound of our harps.
Blessings from my heart to all,
Maria Emilia, from Santa Fe, Argentina

  13. Sonja Grace says:

Laila, a journalist, recently wrote a story about a young woman
brutally gang-raped by government soldiers in Somalia, hoping that her
bravery in telling such a painful story would bring attention to the
awful rape problem there. Government officials accused this brave
young woman of fabricating her own rape. The judge refused to hear
witnesses or accept medical evidence proving that she was raped. Then
the government used the article to jail an innocent rape survivor and
Abdiaziz Abdinur, the journalist who spoke to her. For ‘insulting the
state’ they now face a year in jail.

She’s not alone: too many women live in constant fear of getting shot
or raped, often by the very people charged with protecting them. Rape
is horrific, but to be raped when the only authorities you can turn to
for justice are your rapists — it’s the most crushing powerlessness.
However, together I believe we can bring her hope through our music.
    We can play for peace.

Somalia has already approved a new constitution, selected a new
president, and is finally winning its war against extremists.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud is in a position to bring reforms to
end the epidemic of rape by the armed forces and protect innocent
women. Let us pray for this government and for these women as we play
    for peace in our world.

In Death mysteries happen! Today the Children’s Music network has awarded the Magic Penny award to Tom Hunter who passed away in 2008 from a very rare neurological disease. I still sing his music every week and the Children’s Network continues to use it to teach children love, grief, beauty and that life is about all aspects of ourselves as humans.
I am really excited for this moment in time!

  15. TanyaS says:

Hi everyone. I would appreciate it if you would please include my stepfather “Roy” and my family please next Sunday. My stepfather was admitted to hospital this weekend and had to have a blood transfusion due to low oxygen levels in his blood. He is now home but his oxygen levels are still low and he has to have camera investigations to find out what the cause is. He is very anxious about what may be wrong, as we all are. Thank you very much xxx

He was an instruct at Lark in the Morning Harp camp every year until last year.

Also, my husband, Jim, who is in hospice care with congestive heart failure

  18. Jan Hirsch says:

    Dear Christina,

Please add Paul Lounsbury to our list. He is a dear friend and we have played music together for many years. He has suffered two TIA’s in the last month and needs a third open heart surgery this coming week to replace a valve. The surgeon will have to work around scar tissue from his two previous valve replacements. I did harp therapy for him a week ago and he told me that he had gone into a trance state and felt so refreshed. During the week, he was readmitted to West Chester Medical Center for more tests to determine why he was having daily temperature spikes every afternoon. They were able to find the cause this time–new bacterial growth on the heart valve (the previous tests failed to show this because the material had broken off to stream to his brain, causing the TIA’s). His surgery is scheduled for this coming week.

    With love and gratitude,

    Jan

My 90 year old mother with end stage Alzheimer’s disease broke her hip Thursday December 20th. She came through total hip replacement fine. But, now is not eating and only few sips of liquid per day. She has been receiving high doses of pain and anti-anxiety medication. Please pray for a pain and anxiety free transition for her. My siblings are in denial and my mother does not understand what has happened. Thank you all.

Thank you all for your lovely words, thoughts and sending healing music my way. It is very humbling to be on the “receiving” end! Know that my mom’s memorial service on Nov. 23 was truly uplifting with music, scripture and words from 3 pastors who knew mom. The church was full of people, showing the love of community. We honored mom well. I am spending 2 days a week with dad to help him transition to his new way of life. He misses her terribly.
Thank you again, for your loving intention.
    Sincerely, Bambi Niles

The tide recedes, but leaves behind bright seashells on the sand,
The sun goes down, but gentle warmth still lingers on the land,
The music stops, and yet it echoes on in sweet refrains…
For every joy that passes, something beautiful remains.

We hold Bambi and her family in our thoughts and prayers. Here is her email today.

    Hi Tina,
My lovely mother, Donna Waterman Mitchell, 78, went to her heavenly home this morning around 7:45, ET. She suffered from congestive heart failure (CHF), myleodisplastic syndrome (MDS) and went into her local hospital 10 days ago with fever and weakness due to pneumonia. She was getting stronger, then had a set back with rapid heart rate and shortness of breath on the 5th. She was again getting stronger, but suffered a stroke late Friday evening. She was transferred to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY very early on the 10th. I joined her there and stayed with her in her room. Dad also spent the last two nights with her. We moved her to comfort care on Sunday afternoon after a family meeting. The medical staff were very supportive. Last night since 12:30 am were her most challenging hours. Dad sang to her while I accompanied on the harp. She waited to pass when dad and I went to breakfast. She wanted to make the final decision, as dad and I were struggling with the possibility of bringing her home on hospice care. We realized that her round the clock care may be too much for the two of us. Mom decided to make the decision for us. Mom and dad had a 58 year marriage, 4 children, 10 grand children and 7 great-grand children. They enjoyed traveling, singing and spending time with family and friends. Mom and Dad also faced severe challenges together, like watching 2 of their children pass away. There were both “young” for their ages until mom’s diagnoses in 2009. At that time she was given 6 months to 2 years to live. She beat that by 15 months! Mom played the keyboard, knit, crocheted, made bread and was a wonderful baker.
Your loving words and thoughts and prayers sustain me. Thank you so very much.
    Blessings to you all,
    Bambi
