Windows PC
A Windows PC and a Macbook both have internal webcams. However, you have better control of your viewing angle, and have improved picture quality and sound with a plug-in webcam. So, I use the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000. You can purchase it on the website, as well as Best Buy, Amazon.com, etc. When you install the Logitech software, it allows the user to run the application by double-clicking on the icon. When the menu bar opens, you select the video screen. You select record and the, select stop. It’s quite intuitive. The application creates a Windows Media File (.wmv) which you can email to another Windows user. If the file is greater than 10 Kb, it will be too large for email. In that case, you need to rely on an application such as YouSendIt. This application allows the user to upload the file and have the receiver download it from a website. It’s free for up to 2 Gb. The url is: https://www.yousendit.com/.  Help for the Logitech  Pro 9000  is at:http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/435/5867. Because most people use PCs, the .wmv file is generally viewable for most. There are downloads (approx. $30) that work on both Windows and Mac that convert video into multiple formats, if necessary.

Macbook
Logitech’s Mac compatible webcam is “QuickCam VisionPro 9000 for Mac”. It plugs directly into the camera without the need for installation software. Rather than using Logitech’s application to record, you rely on PhotoBooth, QuickTime 7 and imported and published in something like iMovie. Because a Mac creates a Mac specific video file, one needs to consider what operating system the receiver is using. If you have Apple’s MobileMe (approx $100 per year), you can publish the video to your MobileMe site and have the intended recipient simply run the video from the website.
